FSJ Chamber News and Updates
First off, we would like to thank you for your patience during our transition from Growthzone to Glue up, our new Membership management and registration system. There still may be hick-ups as we begin to use the system, but it seems user friendly. We only transferred over active members and kept accounts set up as they were. This means the main contact is still the main contact on the new system, this person will receive majority of the communications such as invoices, membership renewals, and has the ability to add and remove people on the account. Members that are not the main contact will receive newsletters and e-blasts unless you unsubscribe, and notifications when your membership is renewed. All membership contacts should have received an email to set up there login, which each contact needs a separate email otherwise the system will not create the contact. Anyone who is not an active member will need to re-subscribe to receive the newsletters and e-blasts from the homepage of our website under the stay up-to-date section by entering their email. We have not tried event registration yet, but the AGM is now open for registration.
We have changed our website which is connected to the glue-up system. The web address is the same at fsjchamber.com. More content will be added as it is developed. If there is something you find is missing from our website that would assist you, please let us know. The events page is connected to our event registration page, any events that are partnerships where our partner is taking the registrations will be listed under the North Peace Shop Local page for now as we sort out how we can display both. We have two partnership events coming up in September.
The Fort St. John and District administrative assistant, Carrie Baron, has chosen to move on from the organization. We will miss her knowledge and commitment to the organization and wish her all the best in the future. The Administrative position will be left open while we review our operations, for any assistance please contact Tiffany at Tiffany@fsjchamber.com or admin@fsjchamber.com.
The Creating Energy Conference and Golf Tournament was held in May. The chamber hosted day one of the conference, with Energy Safety Canada hosting day two. Curtis Whitford was the emcee for both days and did a wonderful job. Stacy Freeman with Lakeview Project Services was our Event Manager who organized majority of our conference and sponsor recruitment and worked tirelessly in the midst of staffing changes with the chamber to ensure the event happened. Thank you to the sponsors, attendees, board of directors and everyone else that made these events a possibility. For 2025, we plan to split the conference and golf tournament up into their own events. Golf Tournament in the Spring, and the Creating Energy Conference in the fall. Next years Conference theme will revolve around trades in the energy sector. If you have any topics you would like to see, or you have a business that could provide a tour showcasing trades in action, let us know!
The Chamber Annual General Meeting was postponed in June due to low registration. This has been rescheduled as a to September 17, 2024 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm with a presentation from Northern Health on Community Mental Health. The meal will be Chicken Fajitas which are build your own and meet all dietary restrictions. To meet quorum we need 40 memberships represented. Registration is now open!
We are working on scheduling Lunch and Learns and Business after Five Mixers for the remainder of the year. Lunch and Learns provide a 30 minute presentation on a relevant topic where lunch is provided in the cost and 30 minutes of eating and socializing. If you are interested in presenting, or sponsoring this fall, let us know. Business After 5 mixers is a great time for a member business to showcase what you have to offer between 5:00pm-7:00pm. You provide snacks, refreshments and content, we advertise, take registration and can assist you with the event planning.

Things to watch for:
- Business Walks in August where the Executive Director, Community Futures, and municipal representatives visits businesses to receive your input on business operations and what support you might need.
- There will be some shorter social events in August, watch for coffee social walks and Citronella Bug Spray Workshop with Appies.
- Christmas Party planning has begun. The Chamber will be hosting Christmas Parties where businesses can purchase tickets for their staff. One for families and one for adults, perfect for businesses that may not have enough staff to have a party on their own.
